A funky and balanced cup from Colombia - meet Planadas!
This coffee grows in Plantadas, Tolima region of Colombia, at an altitude of 1500 -2150 masl. The ASOPEP members produce this great coffee. 175 coffee farming families make up the association. Farmers deliver selective hand-picked cherries to the ASOPEP association where the cherries are then hand sorted, fermented, and placed on raised beds to dry. The association takes moisture readings and coffee dries until it reaches an 11% moisture content.
This coffee is carefully hand-picked in order to use only the ripest cherries, later hand sorted to remove any defects. Coffee sundries on raised beds under temperature-controlled conditions until the ideal moisture content is achieved. This microlot is 100% Caturra. This varietgy oriinated in Minas Gerais, Brazil. It is a natural mutation of Red Bourbon. Caturra produces more coffee and is more resistant to plant diseases than Bourbon.
This particular coffee is the combined effort of a group of growers in the El Indio programme. The programme works with the farmers to maintain strict standards and protocols in how they process coffee and keep the quality consistently high. The dedication that the El Indio group show to achieving coffee excellence and supporting growers in creating consistently incredible coffee is remarkable. The meticulous care taken during each stage of processing, not only increases the reputation of coffees from this region but also means growers can collectively produce higher quality coffees and earn a better return through quality-based premiums.
The Tolima region is one of Colombia’s most renowned coffee-growing regions. Coffees from the Tolima region have great representation in the Cup of Excellence and Colombian Coffee Federation competitions.
If you enjoy a natural Caturra coffee, make sure to try our El Jardin, or La Claudia - also great ones from Colombia.
